The best coffee for an espresso machine depends on what you drink most. If your daily menu is espresso, americano, cappuccino and latte, start with a coffee that gives you sweetness, body and consistency rather than choosing only by origin or price.
For everyday espresso: start with Brazil
Brazilian coffees are a strong fit for everyday espresso because they often deliver chocolate, caramel and nut-driven profiles that remain clear in both black coffee and milk drinks.
At Dos Hermanos, Ouro Brasileño comes from Alta Mogiana, São Paulo, at approximately 900–1,200 metres. Its profile is chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts and soft fruit, with a round body, balanced acidity and clean finish. It is available as whole bean or ground coffee in a 1 kg format.
For a brighter espresso: Ethiopia
If you prefer more fruit and florals, Land of Legends is a natural-process Ethiopian coffee with raspberry, tropical fruit, plum and floral notes. It can be brewed as espresso, but expect a brighter and more expressive cup than a classic Brazilian profile.
What about Bolivia Geisha?
Rare coffees such as Patrimonio, our auction-selected Bolivia Geisha, are better treated as a special experience than a daily espresso workhorse. Patrimonio is especially suited to V60, Chemex, Origami and other precision filter methods where its jasmine, cherry, peach and grape character can be fully appreciated.
Whole bean or ground?
If your machine includes a grinder, whole bean is usually the better choice because you can adjust the grind as the coffee ages and as your extraction changes. If you do not have a grinder, ground coffee is the practical option.
